Day 1 of the Shakespeare in a Year Challenge

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! The Shakespeare in a Year Challenge begins today with the play you selected, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Remember, you have until Sunday to read the play. At noon that day, I'll post some thoughts and questions to get the discussion started. I can't wait to read your comments and monitor the debates!

Thus begins our great Shakespearean adventure. As Rudyard Kipling wrote, "Something hidden. Go and find it. Go and look behind the Ranges -- something lost behind the Ranges. Lost and waiting for you. Go!"

  1. Any recommendations on the best series/publisher to look for if planning to expand one's Shakespeare collection?

  2. I still have the versions I used in college, and the professors chose those. But I really like the Arden Shakespeare series; they're well researched, the text is readable, and the books just feel right in my hand!

  3. This Shakespeare-in-a-year challenge seems very exciting for a lit geek like me. After some serious thought, though, I lack the time and energy (but not the desire) to do it right now. I do have a couple of dog-eared paperback copies of the plays packed away, untouched in years, that I may revisit this summer.

Good luck and I envy you! I'll check back here periodically for some enlightenment and encouragement.
